Touch and Grooming Bench
experimentNo. 0007categoryLabs & sensesrecordingpendingdataCC BY 4.0
A contact probe delivers tactile pulses to the fly's bristle and thoracic afferents, and the response is compared with direct stimulation of anterior and abdominal grooming command populations.

Recording pending publication. Follow along for the release.
Setup
- A bench with a contact probe tip.
- Channels: tactile bristles, thoracic (notum) touch, anterior grooming (aDN1 + aDN2) and abdominal grooming (DNp29).
- Side both, left or right; amplitude 0–1.2; cameras Arena, Fly, Plan, Stimulus.
Measurement
- Controlled contact pulses to annotated tactile afferents, or direct drive of grooming command cells; aDN1 / aDN2 resolve to DNg62 / DNge078.
- Paired stimulus and disconnected branches with the same seed; gold rows identify directly driven cells, which other readouts exclude.
Limitations
- Contact encoders are engineered and body gestures are pre-programmed.
- A thoracic-touch response does not prove a complete grooming sequence.
